One of the greatest difficulties facing poor fishing communities in Bangladesh is to obtain access and user rights to water bodies. Until recently, water bodies were leased from the government by rich landowners who then hire fishers to work on them as laborers. International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) has persuaded the government to lease water bodies directly to fisher groups that can use their new-found security of tenure to develop such areas and maximize their fishing capacity.
Access to safely managed water supply, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) facilities is a fundamental requirement for development. While Bangladesh has made sustainable strides in economic growth, the persisting issue of insufficient safely managed WASH services in rural areas remains a major concern for the country. SDG 6 is dedicated to addressing challenges pertaining to clean drinking water, sanitation and hygiene as well as the conservation of water related eco system. This program includes enhancing access of safe drinking water and reducing open defection practices. With the partnership of PKSF, BASA Foundation is implementing this program including, Mymensingh and Jamalpur, Through this initiative, BASA Foundation aims to deliver water and sanitation products to 59,000 beneficiaries, ensuring improved access to clean water and sanitation facilities. This comprehensive program integrates financial accessibility, capacity building, awareness creation, and technical support to achieve sustainable outcomes.
